Shhh... I'm counting!

So my new project is a beret for me. While taking on crocheting (and some knitting) this month, I have yet to have anything done for myself. The 'Sweet November' shawl (I've been obsessed w/ having the same type of shawl/scarf Charlize Theron wears in it since I saw the movie) that started my whole crocheting adventure was put on hold the next day that I started it because of the different projects for Christmas presents those took priority. It's now time for moi. Anyway I was looking through knitting patterns, even though I can't really read them yet, and found an awesome beret, but I can't figure out knitting patterns so I went on a search for a crocheted beret. Low and behold my favorite video tutorial lady had one! Yay. I couldn't have done any of my projects without her videos. Props to Teresa! Oh and there is a lot of counting involved in this beret pattern, and I'm always losing my spot, but I'm so proud because I got this one down, I don't think I've skipped on stitch, yay me! Can't wait to finish it... I might almost be done actually.

Oh funny thing, my mom taught herself how to knit, and while trying to figure out how to read a knitting pattern I found out that her knitting technique is SO much easier than everyone elses, lol. I didn't realize we knit differently, and while I tried the "right" way it just didn't work for me. So proud of mama for that. I told her about it today and she couldn't figure out why people would knit that way. Haha. -- Maybe I'll make a video of her style at some point.

Let's see what else is going on ... oh yes, my brother's beanie is still too small, I'm going to attempt to make him another at some point. Hopefully before winter is over, haha. I saw a great pattern of a multi-toned one, so maybe I can figure it out. Oh and the brudder cracked me up when he was watching me crochet at his house and said softly, "I need a hobby." LOL, I love how fascinated he is by it... I bet I can get him to start crocheting too. I think that would be too much fun, lol. He would never tell anyone if he did though of course. Men.

Poor Bloggy

I've been completely neglecting you. I'm sorry. The sad thing is there's been so much to talk about that I got over whelmed and just didn't update. Haha, what a dork.

Feliz Christmas! Well, it's officially over, but still... I had a very mellow couple of days w/ the family. We celebrate Christmas Eve here, while usually we wait until midnight for gifts we were all pretty exhausted and did it early. We were at my bro's this year, and got home before midnight. Completely off from years past ... I was getting calls until 2am from family. Okay, my dad called just before 1 and my aunt called at 2, but still. Just to give an example on how late Christmas usually runs. Not this year tho, it was off, but not necessarily in a bad way... so maybe different is the word, not off.

I was so proud while I was wrapping up gifts that I made myself for my family, I can't even tell you. This wrist sprain was actually a blessing in that way, I think that not only did they mean a lot for me, but for them as well. My brother received a gray beanie (my very first hat) and while it was a bit tight, I think it stretched enough where it's not cutting off his circulation now, lol. He was really proud though and that fills the heart w/ warm fuzzies. My niece was adorable about her little scarf, she loved it. She had already seen it on me when I thought I'd keep it, but she really liked it. She's 9, so I'm glad she was easy to please. Mama and tia (aunt) Lupe got a scarf w/ the shell stitch, they look gorgeous. I'm going to make myself one at some point. I will post pictures later. I also made bookthongs one for my niece and one for my mom. I'm going to make more for my friends, they're really fun to make. Oh I made dad a scarf too, but I haven't seen him yet. Hope he likes it, the yarn for his was hard to work w/ because of how fluffy it is, but it's so soft and cuddly ... I actually knitted that one after undoing it tons of times, lol.

I'm laying in bed in my fluffy red robe that my "niece" (*ahem* brother) got me, and I'm falling asleep b/c of how warm & cozy it is.... perfect for slaying evil cramps! MUAHAHA.

Buenas Noches!!

Girl's Night; Christmas Movie Edition

Ooooor not.

So I've very blessed... my Sisterhood and I try to get together for a girl's night once a month or so, depending how busy we are. I've known two of them since 3rd grade and the other since 7th. We've been through everything together and them some... hence my calling us the Sisterhood. No traveling pants though. Two are already married, one will be married in 2010, yet we still make time to get together and just be ourselves.

Anyway, so last night we were getting together to watch Christmas movies. However... there was sangria, there was music, there was "caroling" over the phone, there was dancing in the kitchen, there was talk such as...

"UTI? UIDs?"
"No, no IUDs!"
"Bring your nursing book!"
"Ewwww, so that's how you circumsize a baby! OUCH!"

There was more wine, more dancing (still in the kitchen, as oppose to her big living a couple feet away), more singing, bothering the hubbo every 10mins, hanging of childhood doll (that could be another blog in itself), and more music of course.

Christmas movies at any time? No, none. We were having way too much fun to even remember the reason we got together in the first place, lol. Oh the Sisterhood...

Can't get enough...

Rock & Roll; Eric Hutchinson - I should have been into this song for months, but since I didn't really pay attention to Mr. Perez Hilton, I've been missing out. It's so great tho ... I love his voice too, I'm thinking I'd love his whole CD.

Let it Rock; Kevin Rudulf - I've been hearing it for a while and loving it ... but this week it's been sneaking into my mind for some reason.

Single Ladies; Beyonce - Even though she kind of bugs me (seems fake, I don't care what people say, haha) ... this song is so damn catchy. Plus the videos on youtube crack me up.

Honesty I can't stop listening to the whole Break & Repair Method CD actually. It's just so good.

Hmmm...I'm sure I'lll think of more later

Cuppycake Sam

OMG, I am absolutely in love w/ this little boy! Thank you Katy Perry for putting him on your blog (she loves him too) so I could find him. <3

Cuppy Cake Sam
Nine-year-old

Sam skyrocketed to Internet fame for his adorable rendition of the
“cuppy cake song.” But what started as a lighthearted skit that his
sister posted for fun soon became a source of cruelty and pain.
Mean-spirited comments poured in taunting the boy that he was obscenely obese. When Sam read the comments, he was heartbroken. What the vicious critics failed to realize is that Sam suffers from a rare and debilitating kidney disease called IGM nephropathy.

The disease causes Sam’s immune system to attack his kidneys, so to combat it, he has been on steroids for the last six years. One of the most common side-effects of steroids is a moon-shaped face, weight gain and stunted growth.

Sam and his mother, Angie, turn to Dr. Jim for help, who suggests there might be some alternative treatments for Sam that would allow him to decrease or cease the amount of steroids he’s consuming.

When asked what Sam would like to say to his critics, he replies, “Don’t judge people before you get to know them. Because if you judge them before you get to know them, you’ll feel really bad later.”

My Favorite tea & a wet lap

So as I was sitting on my bed, reading e-mails, chatting, drinking my favorite tea , and eating an apple (yeah I know it's weird, but it seemed to work ok for me today) ... oh have I mentioned I'm a massage therapist w/ a sprained wrist? Yeah, I have time for these type of things at 2 in the afternoon *eye roll* ... I apparently was so caught up in something on my laptop that I spilled the tea directly on my ... uhh lap. o_o
Ok, fine it was directly on my girly parts since I was sitting Indian style .... THANKFULLY though the favorite tea was already pretty cool, but it was not pleasant. Particularly because my bed is now wet ... and not in the good way. Haha, ew.

So one of my favorite memories of Morelia, was waking up to the smell of lemongrass. My family would make a big pot of it every morning, they have a lemongrass plant growing in the back, and it's just a must in our household. Well, here in Chicago it's really hard to keep a lemongrass plant, especially when you are me and lack a green thumb ... so on one wonderful day I found the favorite tea. We know the brand, we like the brand, but we honestly didn't really think it would taste the same as the tea made w/ fresh lemongrass. However, if it quenched our craving a little bit, it would be worth it, so we tried it, and I kid you not it was like I was in Mexico again. Oooooh the yumminess! Our home is never w/o it now.

Talk about product placement, I should get a cut or something. ;)

Oooh exciting!

My very first blog ... well, not really I mean technically I've had LJ for years, but whatever :)

Not really sure what I have to blog about, I just thought of the name and had to come save it ... but now that I think about it I doubt anyone would have thought of my genius idear. Haha.

Okay so... things to know about me:

I am Mickey (in the internets anyway) or mickers.
Live in Chicago, and I love it.
Parents are from Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico
Born here, fam moved to Morelia for 4yrs, moved back, haven't left since except for visits.
I love ellipsis, and I use them way too much...
I love music, all sorts
I love traveling
I love bodywork (ie. massage, energy, reiki)
My friends are all over the world
Family is suuuuper important

Why does this make me feel like I'm writing a personal ad? Okay forget it, I'm done.

Oh! I should probably explain the blog title ... growing up in Mexico I got the nickname traviesa which translates to michievious, frankly I lived there between the ages of 8mo to 4yrs and had no idea what I could have done to get the nickname. However, as I visited again in my teen years, I realize the name suits me just fine. Especially when I was with my cousin. Her nickname was Lucifer, so you can just imagine the trouble we may (or may not) have caused. I love the Little Miss Trouble/Sunshine/Giggles and the idea hit me to use both. Kinda genius, I know. lol :P

As I was getting wrapped up in the net ... you know when you went to search for a picture of something, but something else grabs your attention, and then something else grabs it, and you somehow end up in a website with NO idea how you got there or what you were doing before? Yep, that's what happened ... oh yeah as I was saying, I ran across a couple of blogs and they reminded me how I like the whole "just posting what I'm digging this week" type of thing. I might do that. Although, after re-reading this paragraph I might be slightly ADD when it comes to the net, and this blog will very easily turn into anything and everything from puppies to the weather (ok I had originally posted Chinese food, but I did NOT want to ever think about those two together :S ).

Ok, really done now....
